Description:

This tea is from Jingmai Da Zhai, grown in Da Ping Zhang area, and it is considered to be of the finest Jingmai tea available on market. We took few kilos of this Huang Pian to Kunming, where some of it we offer as loose leaves and rest will be pressed into the cakes. This raw puerh is the highest selection of older tea leaves ( Huang Pian - yellow leaves, or Da Ye Zi ). The older leaves, coming from the hundred year's trees, become bright yellow, red or orange tinted. The tea workers sort out these leaves according the production standards. This material comes from pure ancient tea trees. Pleasant aroma, spark-ish tea soup, sweet and easy to drink!

Yellow Leaves

5 stars 4.0 This review helped: 0 / 0

Huang Pian or Day Ye Zi means yellow leaves. They are old, yellow, red or orange tea leaves, which are taken out before production of higher quality pu-erh. This is tea from Jingmai area from very old wild tea trees - up to several hundred years old. As mentioned in the description of the product, part of the tea is available as loose tea and part of this Maocha be pressed into cakes.

Mated leaves smells well, fruity and sweet.
I recommend using warmer water and longer steeping times. Then you get very aromatic, dense infusion of floral taste. It's almost hard to believe how fragrant an infusion could be. This is Jingmai :-) Also you can observe a pleasant bitterness of wild leaves. It also leaves a pleasant feeling in the mouth. The energy is then quite strong - I was surprised what could be hidden in yellow leaves. Of course, endurance is not great and you can prepare 3 max 4 very dense infusions.
If you don’t know this type of tea, Jingmai’s Gu Shu Huang Pian is worth trying!

The price is $5 per 50g. We'll see the price of this year’s cake ...not yet available.

Quotes - Pu-erh

„The recently developed Wo Dui process (渥堆) pioneered by both the Menghai and Kunming Tea Factories has created a new type of pu-erh tea of which some traditionalists dispute the legitimacy. This process involves an accelerated fermentation into "ripe" Shou Cha (熟茶) which is then sold loose or pressed in various shapes.“

Quotes

„Yunnan Provincial Government has stipulated that for tea to qualify as Pu er it must be:

i) of the Broad Leaf variety (Sinensis Assamica)
ii) grown in the Lancang (Mekong) River region
iii) sun dried. The third point is important as there is much tea grown in the Lancang River area that is not sun dried.

There are also increasing amounts of Small Leaf Variety (Xiao Ye Zhong /小叶种) being grown in the Lancang River area.“
